The practical details

Go ahead, ask.

About the food, the app and the woman in the apron. Here are the answers.

Getting started

Can I use Babcio today?

Yes. The cookbook is open: 135 recipes, free, no account. The app is on its way and not in the App Store yet.

What does it cost?

The app, meal planner and web recipes are free. Pro costs DKK 49 per month and primarily gives you more scans when the feature opens. The app is on its way. A scan is intended to suggest meals from a photo of your fridge. The feature is not ready, and Pro is not available to buy yet.

Do I need an account?

No. Search, read, tick off ingredients and print. All without an account.

The planner and the app

Can I use my voice while cooking?

Yes, in the app. Turn on Hands-free and say “next, Babcio”, “back, Babcio” or “read, Babcio”. Your phone needs on-device speech recognition and permission to listen.

How does Babcio make cooking playful?

Every meal you cook in the app earns points. They count towards eight cooking titles, from Kitchen Newcomer to Babcio’s Favourite. Goals and achievements along the way.

Will Babcio order my groceries?

Not yet. The app gathers ingredients into a shopping list, and you shop where you already shop. Sending a grocery order to a shop is still being tested. No shop receives orders from Babcio yet.

Can I ask Babcio for help while cooking?

Not yet. The app has a chat for questions about the dish, but online replies aren’t switched on. The steps and her tips are already in every recipe.

How will I cancel?

Through Apple, like any other subscription. It renews automatically until you cancel. The terms are shown before you buy.

On your side

What does Babcio stand by?

Two things. You don’t need Pro to follow a recipe. And commission never decides what Babcio suggests for dinner.

Do I earn points just by opening the app?

No. Points come when you cook and mark the dish finished. A milestone can add a bonus. Opening the app earns nothing.

What if I miss a day?

Then there’s tomorrow. The app can remind you how many days in a row you’ve cooked. Dismiss the reminder and it’s gone for the day.

What is Dish of the week?

One dish we all cook in the same week. Find it on the homepage or in the cookbook. Cook it when it suits you, then write one line about how it went. New dish every Monday. No account, no signup.

The grandmother and the pictures

What does Babcio mean?

Babcia is Polish for grandmother. We call her Babcio. Said with love, of course.

Is Babcio a real person?

There was a real Babcia: the founder’s grandmother. Babcio is an illustrated character inspired by her. Her lines are written for the app.

Are these photographs of cooked dishes?

No. The food images are AI-generated serving suggestions. Follow the recipe’s ingredients list, including when choosing sides. App screens are genuine captures from the Babcio app. The kitchen scenes and shared-cooking illustration are also AI-generated. They are not family photographs.
